New owners take over Camp Wagging Tails as founders shift focus to family, travel.
For more than six years, Cornelius residents Jim and Celia Bensman have been most of the brains and a good bit of the brawn behind the very successful Camp Wagging Tails, a day camp and boarding facility for dogs and cats on Bailey Road.
Over time, Camp Wagging Tails has grown to include seven fenced, outdoor play areas, a bone-shaped swimming pool, Web cams to watch the campers in action both indoors and outside, and climate-controlled cabins that rival some hotel rooms.
But the Bensmans are now closing in on true retirement. Jim announced earlier this year that, after 10 years as a Cornelius town commissioner, he will not run for re-election, and last week, the couple announced they have sold Camp Wagging Tails and will set their sights on more time with family.
